UserFly was founded by Chris Estreich and Ashvin Kumar. It was intended to provide users with an improved way to gain insight into how visitors view and explore their websites. Rather than performing a third party test, UserFly allows users to actually see how real visitors navigate their websites. Kumar and Estreich have applied their experience in the making of UserFly, which includes a position as the Vice President of Engineering at Affinity Circles for Kumar and work as the Senior Software Enginner at Oodle for Estreich.
A number of websites offer users a way to perform tests on their websites. Most of these are performed by a community or third party who did not actually come across their website naturally. UserFly stands out because it allows the user to actually watch as real visitors explore their websites.
The UserFly website welcomes users with a brilliant blue header and white color scheme. The sleek logo features the website name in white beside a rounded, fluttering design. The homepage presents newcomers with a short video explaining how UserFly works. The actual application does not look like anything when in use since it records visitors on the user’s website. After adding the code, the user’s site is not altered visually in any way. The user can view playback lists that are sorted by page for each visitor when reviewing the UserFly results.
Users are initially provided with a free account that includes up to 10 captures per month. Those who would like to upgrade can choose between four membership options. The first is the Basic plan which costs around $10 per month and includes up to 100 monthly captures, unlimited domains, 30 day storage for recordings, the ability to download recordings and AJAX on playback. A Pro membership costs around $25 per month and upgrades to include 1,000 captures and 60 day recording storage. The Business plan costs around $50 per month and includes recording for HTTPS pages. The Enterprise membership costs around $200 per month and includes up to 10,000 captures per month and 90 day recording storage.
UserFly is intended for website owners who would like to monitor and improve the way visitors interact with their site. The application provides a lot of detail, right down to actually watching each mouse movement and keystroke.
